PROTEC SAFETY FIRST PAIR AND ADDITIONAL PAIR VIA INTERIM BENEFITS
ProTec Safety First Pair Eligibility
Members are eligible for a first pair of ProTec safety lenses and frame once every 12 months beginning in January. Visit eyefinity.com for eligibility and authorization information. Refer to the ProTec Eyecare section for complete coverage and billing details.
ProTec Safety Additional Pair Benefit via Interim Benefits Eligibility
ProTec Safety Additional Pair of prescription safety lenses and frame is allowed for members to receive safety glasses or goggles within the same benefit plan year. When visiting eyefinity.com for eligibility, note that the ProTec Safety additional pair benefit has special handling rules and is administered via Interim Benefits. Refer to the Materials Coverage section.
Materials Coverage
Lenses
The following Safety lens enhancements are covered and available to the member only:
- Progressive lenses
- Polycarbonate lenses are preferred
- Ultraviolet (UV) coating
- Scratch-resistant coating
- Anti-reflective coating
- Tints up to Level #2
The following safety lens enhancements are not covered:
- Photochromics
Frame
Fully covered from the ProTec Eyewear kit/online catalog. Members are required to select wrap around only frames- no side shields allowed. Goggles are allowed/available.
The patient must choose a ProTec Eyewear frame approved by TTX. Please have them check with their employer if the ProTec frame selected is approved for both first and additional pair.
The patient has a retail frame allowance of $130 (wholesale allowance of $50) for any frame outside the ProTec frame collection. If a member chooses a frame with a cost that exceeds both the wholesale and retail allowances, deduct 20% from retail overage. Determine the patient’s cost (if any) as you do today and collect any overages from patient. (The patient is NOT limited to ProTec frames).
Additional ProTec Pair Eligibility
An additional pair of safety lenses and a ProTec frame up to a $130 retail allowance are also available every calendar year via interim benefits.
Important!
The patient is eligible for an additional pair of ProTec safety glasses via Interim Benefits. Call VSP to confirm eligibility and receive an authorization.

The TTX Company patients may fill out a questionnaire about their work environment and related safety requirements before their exam. A sample Safety Requirements Questionnaire is in the Tools and Forms section of the Manuals on VSPOnline at eyefinity.com. Keep a copy of the questionnaire or the information it contains in your patient’s record.
